New seed selection guide is worth a look!

Whether you’re working on fall fertility and weed control, trying to finish up harvest or just planning which meetings you want to attend this winter, it’s worth taking a few minutes one evening to flip through the new Canola Variety Selection Guide: Featuring CPT Summary Data. It can be downloaded from the Canola Performance Trial (CPT) website to your phone, computer or tablet for easy reading.

This selection guide is the first CPT booklet of its kind and includes information to help assess a dataset, tips on how to make more sense of some statistics and graphs with summary data. This tool is brought to you by the CPT Governance Committee (which includes grower groups, provincial oilseed specialists, CSTA and CCC representation). The CPT program remains an independent, unbiased variety testing program which was entirely funded by Alberta Canola, SaskCanola and the Manitoba Canola Growers Association this year, along with contributions from the BCGPA. The Canola Council of Canada administers the program.

As the name suggests, the ‘Canola Variety Selection Guide: Featuring CPT Summary Data’ showcases quality data from the 2011 through 2016 small plot and field scale Canola Performance Trials. It was designed to assist growers with the variety selection process by providing information and data on different factors that could be considered when seed decisions for 2018. It also provides an overview of key functions of the searchable online database on the CPT website, to help you compare varieties in the way that interests you most.

The new Canola Variety Selection Guide is not replacing the annual CPT data booklets; it is an additional resource for growers and industry members to utilize when making this major input decision. The 2017 CPT results booklet will be produced later this fall after the rest of the CPT small plot and field scale sites have been harvested.
