Sentinel fields: New Canola Watch feature for 2017

New for this year, Canola Watch will include observations from “Sentinel fields”. Each Canola Council of Canada agronomy specialist will have at least one field they scout regularly through the season. Why sentinel fields? Well, because CCC agronomy specialists are usually called out to problem fields here and there throughout their territories — but they don’t get called to the good fields, and they don’t visit the same fields over and over.

At the sentinel fields, CCC agronomy specialists and summer students will do the timely scouting we recommend in Canola Watch, including for stand establishment, insects, weeds, diseases and staging, to name just a few. By watching a few fields really closely, Canola Watch will have new observations and approaches to benefit our readers. You can follow our sentinel field observations through Twitter and Instagram by searching the hashtag #CWfield17.
